Social construction is virtually actions, colors, genders,
and other signs whose meaning feels natural or correct even though it is not
its reality or actual definition. The reality of the feelings people get from
these actions or colors is a simple fact that society made it that way.
Creators use social construction to their advantage in all forms of media. For
example, in the movie Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent has a specific color scheme
of green, purple, and black to help translate that she is a Villain to younger
viewers. The company, Disney, uses this color scheme frequently when creating a
villain character. Ursula, the Evil Queen, and Dr. Facilier prove this point
further with their green, purple, and black color schemes that give off a
villainous vibe. By taking advantage of the social construct, Disney preset the
roles in the audience's mind without them even knowing. The way Disney uses a
specific color scheme to control an audiences' feelings towards a character is
just one-way media utilizes social construction.
